No More Boring Salads! The Ultimate Salad Guide

Salads are a fantastic way to get your fruit and veg intake up, as well as consume many more micronutrients and in some cases, fiber. However, so many people think that salads have to be boring. This just isn’t true! If you’re eating boring salads, then you’re doing it wrong. Below, you’ll find the ultimate salad guide that will help you to enjoy healthy, delicious salad forever. Take a look:

Decide On Your Base Leaves

Deciding on your base leaves could make a big difference to how much you enjoy the salad. You don’t just have to pick lettuce! Spinach and kale can work very well, and they have a higher fiber and protein content than lettuce. Dark, leafy greens are very good for you and will make your salad even healthier. You don’t need too many bases leaves providing the rest of your ingredients are plentiful – if you feel like you’re just eating leaves, you haven’t added enough of the other ingredients.

Gather As Many Ingredients As You Can

Now it’s time to gather as many ingredients as you can and get creative. An onion will give you salad some flavor and a kick, while raw sliced mushrooms will add some texture. Include sliced avocado for some healthy fat, but don’t forget to add some lemon juice and some salt.

Cheese always works well on a salad, but you don’t just have to go for plain old grated or cheddar. Try some feta or even some halloumi. Gherkins can be delicious, then you have ingredients like beetroot, baby tomatoes, salad tomatoes, broccoli, and rocket. All of these ingredients can work together to give your salad more flavor and texture.

If you want to make your salad a little more filling, you could add a small portion of noodles. Noodle salad is always a winner!

Add Some Protein

Protein will make your salad more filling and delicious. You could add a high-quality portion of fish, or even some easy peel hard boiled eggs. This could make a great lunch if you know you’ve been short on vegetables and nutrients lately.

Don’t Forget Your Herbs

Herbs are the key to any salad, and you can get really creative here. Not all herbs will go together of course, so you may need to experiment and do some research first. Basil usually works well, as well as mint, ginger, garlic, cilantro, and fennel seeds. Have a lot of fun!

Add A Sauce

Now, if you’re trying to eat a good nutritious meal, you shouldn’t add a ton of sugary, high cal sauce. However, you can find low-calorie salad dressings, as well as use light olive oil, and even balsamic vinegar. Don’t drown your salad – you want the natural flavors to come through.

Toss It Well

You don’t have to toss your salad if you like to layer it a certain way, but this can help if you want to ensure everything is perfectly mixed. Buy a big salad bowl and some tongs and you’ll be able to do this far easier.
