Samsung Showcase Side-by-Side Refrigerator Review #MasterYourHome @BestBuy

So about a month ago I was absolutely floored to learn that I was receiving a new refrigerator!! The fridge was the only appliance (Aside from the furnace I suppose) that I have not replaced in our 4 years at this home. When we moved into this home we were spoiled with a nice-sized side-by-side fridge. Granted it was a little older and for some reason we could only get the water to come out of the door at a tiny trickle, I still loved it. Over the last several months though I started noticing the drastic temperature changes inside. The bottom drawer froze and the top shelf froze whatever was placed there. So we had a ton of un-usable space. So to say I was a LITTLE excited when the email came through saying that I would do a Samsung Showcase Side-by-Side Refrigerator Review is a total understatement. I think I may have jumped a few times and my smile literally was cheek-to-cheek. Before y’all get super jealous, I emailed my tax guy to figure out what this would imply, and he told me I’m still going to need to save up some money to cover this 1099. (But still totally worth it!)

All funny stuff aside, I’m going to give you all a perfectly honest review of the Samsung Showcase Side-by-Side 28.7 cu ft Refrigerator -what I love and what I think could be improved upon.

I followed the Best Buy measurements video and made sure that it fit. It’s a very important step – you don’t want to get that fridge delivered to find out that it doesn’t fit your space. Thankfully the previous owners had already torn apart the cupboards above the old fridge because it’s quite large. I have a hard time wrapping my mind around things until I actually SEE it. It does stick out further than our old fridge by a few inches – but that doesn’t bother me one bit.

I loved the delivery service who brought our fridge. Best Buy hires a local company to install the refrigerator – and MN Plumbing & Appliance did an amazing job, and went WAY above and beyond in installing our fridge. Apparently our trickling water was a problem outside of our old fridge – and they fixed it! They also had to use a saw to remove a tiny piece of wood from our wall that I didn’t know was back there. They are prepared for these things though and just worked right through it. They walked me through setup, and double checked to make sure everything was installed correctly before leaving. They were great. I highly recommend them.

I was instantly in love with the front panels. Aren’t they beautiful? 

The touch-screen panel allows for simple operation adjustments, like the temperature that you like your fridge and freezer to be at. We’ve been slowly adjusting this colder over time, as we apparently got used to extremely cold milk – and I like my ice cream nice and frozen. There are also power freeze and power cooling options for when you put something into the fridge or freezer and you want the temperature to adjust quickly – this takes a little more power but allows you to get your stuff frozen or cooled quicker. 

Although it was a little difficult to get used to, the Dual Door Refrigerator-Innovated Two-Door Design is quite nice. I was super impressed that a few of the door shelves were actually drawers that can be pulled open and closed. The kids loved this the most so we chose to put the kids’ food items in these drawers. Clearly I was running low on the kids’ items. They survived. The door panel is a metal cooling stainless steel – so it helps to maintain the consistent temperature. I haven’t noticed my milk in the door being any more warm or cool than the milk inside. I’ve tested it, too! 

To open the front door panel only, you open from the bottom half of the handle – and to open the whole fridge door, you open from the top half of the handle. 

One drawback to the Dual-Door Fridge was that my youngest is unable to reach the handle that pulls the whole fridge open. I thought this would be brilliant – until he would pull the kitchen chair and any stool he could get to stand up and open the door – and then the door would remain open because something always got in the way. Thankfully, the fridge has an alarm to alert us that the door is open. (Although I do wish the alarm was louder or had a volume option – so I could hear it from the bedroom.) THEN we discovered that he could open up the fridge, if he opened the front door first and then reached in to grab the big door. An extra step for him but I have never heard him complain at all. In about six months he’ll probably be tall enough to open the whole door at once. 

I decided I’d be Pinterest-Smart and apply some press and seal so that It stays clean, at least for a little while, ha! Then I started loading it up. I had just gone grocery shopping the day before, and I was amazed at how empty the fridge felt. I really feel like there’s more than twice the amount of space that I had previously. I now purchase 4-5 gallons of milk at a time and seemingly never run out of space! I could probably fit 6 on the one shelf alone. I *LOVE* that. It’s not even that it is more wide – because it’s only 1″ wider and only 2″ deeper than our old one. BUT- I believe there is less ‘STUFF’ between the walls of the fridge and the inside, creating that much more usable space.  

One big thing I noticed right away as a cheese-loving family is that there was no ‘cheese drawer’. I’m not sure why I expected that, but I was like… where do I put all this cheese? Apparently I have purchased a lot of cheese in the past few weeks! I grabbed our old container that held the kid-friendly snacks and filled that up. It works perfectly fine for us – but it was a little bit of a drawback for us. I could probably move the condiments to one of the lower shelves on the door and put the cheese in the door – but that just wasn’t normal to me. 

I do however, really enjoy the extra drawers in the freezer. Three drawers for the freezer is fantastic! To get a better idea of the size of this fridge – see that gallon of ice cream? It’s on one of the smaller shelves. Yeah! HUGE space – I love it.  I love that the ice maker is on the door. It took up nearly two shelves worth of space in my old freezer – and the doors are so much less ideal for holding items – so I’d rather have the shelves. The ice coming from the front door takes a second or two to kick-in before dispensing, but otherwise is very handy. 

One more thing that I’ve noticed that bothers me just a little – is that sometimes when I’m carelessly opening the refrigerator door – my foot gets in the way and the top of my foot is at just the right height where it scratches (and HURTS like mad!) the top of my foot. I have to be a little more careful of this – but it does not make me dislike the fridge. It essentially is showing me how well they used the space for the fridge. ALL The way to the ground! My last fridge had some sort of a vent at the bottom that collected dirt like crazy, and it was where I put the water filter. The water filter here is on the inside of the fridge near the produce drawer.

Overall – I am absolutely thrilled that we have this Samsung Fridge. We have loved Samsung items for some time now, and really appreciate the technology in our home. I highly recommend this fridge if you are in the market for a new one. It is truly spectacular! It’s available at Best Buy.
