Miracle-Gro Kids Mickey Mouse Greenhouse

So for everyone who is (somewhat) following along with my new gardening endeavors: I’ve got a new product for y’all to check out Smile

Apparently the rep for Miracle Gro Kids Reads my blog – and realized that my little boys would be the perfect help to my big gardening plans!

When I saw what they had to offer, I was instantly smitten with the Mickey Mouse gardening set for my little man who adores the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

image

When he saw that I was ordering that – he started singing the song. “It’s the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse – Come inside, it’s fun inside..”

And again when the kit showed up in the mail…

And again while we were planting… haha!

DSC03162Whoa – I just jumped way ahead of myself!  Let’s talk about the kits for kids:

Miracle-Gro® Kids gardening sets offer parents and kids a fun and rewarding way to introduce the basic concepts of gardening to their children. Complete with a specially formulated Miracle-Gro® Gro-Mix that is safe and non-toxic, parents will watch as their children cultivate their green thumb and see their seeds sprout to plants in just weeks! Available in fruit and vegetables assortments, the garden sets also allow for children to grow their own fruits and vegetables to eat right at home.

The Miracle Gro Kids’ sets all contain the special Gro-Mix: which turns light brown when the soil is dry and needs water – and then Dark Brown when it’s got plenty of water.

image

We opened up the package, and had to find a time when my little Ethan wasn’t awake in order to plant the seeds.  Andrew ‘helped’.

(Please excuse the mess of our torn up flooring that was on our kitchen table on the deck.. haha!)

The Gro-Mix needs to be mixed with water in order to expand and be placed into the Gro-Pod Containers:

DSC03159

Then you plant the seeds – and place them all into the Mickey base:

DSC03164

Put the lid on – place it in the sun – and watch them grow!

DSC03167

I guess we were getting a little over obsessive about watering it on a daily basis (Bad mommy for telling him that we had to water it each morning…) and it started growing a little mold on the soil.  We simply scraped some of that soil off, and let it continue to grow.

Just as the seedlings were popping through and Andrew was starting to get really excited about his new plants – we had a really blustery windy day – and … down went Mickey.DSC03280

So – we’re going to replant them.. they came with plenty of seeds for us to re-plant.  And – this time we’ll put sand in the bottom so that it doesn’t fly so easily (although the wind was like 40+mph that day..)

Over all – it’s been really fun, and very educational for Andrew – he’s so interested in watching the plants grow and cried so hard when they fell.. Sad smile

Check Miracle-Gro kids website out for fun and educational games with vegetables and fruits! Also check out their Facebook page for exciting news!

Would your kids love to try planting their own garden, too?

Win It!!!!

One lucky reader from Grinning Cheek to Cheek will win a Disney Mickey Mouse Greenhouse from Miracle-Gro! (ERV: $12.99)

We did not have good luck with our miracle gro greenhouse. They molded almost overnight. They did sprout and I have transplanted the seedkings to their own pot (I don’t want to infect my existing planters with the mold). Oirs was individual seeds and was only $1, but still…not a good thing and the kids were disappointed.

I think your son and my son are probably a lot alike. He loves Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and I am sure that he’d be equally excited about having his own little greenhouse. In fact, if I don’t win, I’m probably going to buy one for his birthday anyway (3 weeks away… hint hint). 🙂
