Volunteering and giving back to my local community has always been important to me. Growing up in North Minneapolis an area in Minneapolis where community involvement is very important. While in college, I became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated. Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc. is service sorority founded in 1908. Over the years it has remained an important priority in my life to donate time, money and items to local charities in our area.
We have participated in numerous volunteer activities throughout the year. This year our family participated in the Wish Tree giving program with PICA Headstart a private non-profit organization that operates early childhood education programs within the community. We sponsored a child by purchasing their dream Christmas gift. I attended the Wish Tree ceremony giving the child we picked their Christmas gift for the holiday.
This is just one way our family gives back during the holiday season. We enjoy volunteering at Second Harvest Heartland a local food bank that helps get food to people in need.
