I need my phone for three things: being in touch (calls/texts), taking pictures, and checking my email. Games and Facebook are a perk for sure! I also have two little kids, so my phone needs to be drop-proof, bump-proof, and drool-proof. If you’re like me, you like the functionality of a smart phone but don’t use all the perks and options of an expensive piece of technology. The Kyocera Hydro AIR is fully equipped for a busy you at a fraction of the price.
My absolute favorite thing about the Kyocera Hydro AIR is the water proof ability! I’ve dropped phones in kiddie pools more times than I care to admit, so it’s fantastic that this little bit of necessity can not only survive a drop in the pool, it can stay there while the crying kid that just got water dumped on her head by big brother is comforted. Up to 3 feet deep for up to 30 minutes! The phone doesn’t need to be instantly picked up, dried off and fretted over. I also don’t have to worry about sticky fingers, teething drool or food splatter because I can wash it off worry-free. And when the 1 year old tosses it onto the tile… still no problem.
For those that don’t have kids, imagine cooking, swimming, beach days, long hikes and more. The Hydro AIR will easily survive the drops, splashes, dust, and even being forgotten in your pocket for a shallow swim!
The Kyocera Hydro AIR also feels good in my hand. It’s lightweight with a bit of curve to fit naturally. It sometimes feels a bit big for my fingers, but that’s what comes with a large 5-inch screen. It’s touch sensitivity is right on and the Android system loaded with Google apps is easy to function. My husband was excited about the memory card slot to support up to 32 GB of extra memory.
Battery life is always a struggle for me, so I love that the Hydro AIR tells me how much life it has left, and lets me know what is using the most power and how to fix it. The description boasts a long-lasting 2300mAh Lithium ion battery….. in mommy language that means it can last me all day of work, home, playground, and relaxing after bedtime!
The camera is my major sore point. The phone has a 5MP camera, and I think it has the capability of taking a good picture, but my little kiddos are constantly moving, so the pictures are constantly blurry. This is pretty typical for smart phones, so I’m not shocked, but it’s a big down side for me because I love the convenience of using my smart phone for a camera. It has a lot of settings to play with, so maybe it has more potential for good pictures than I’ve gotten.
Overall, the Kyocera Hydro AIR is a solid, life-proof Android-based smart phone. If you are one that uses your smart phone for your memories of your kids or pets, this may not be for you. But, if you typically take still pictures, this phone will survive the mishaps of a busy life and exploring adventures.
