Avocados are a great source of healthy fats and nutrition! Which means they are also great for kids, and my kids LOVE them. PLUS they are super easy to prepare!
Simply grab a ripe avocado (dark and soft) and cut it in half lengthwise. Twist a little while pulling apart to separate, then stab the knife into the pit to pull it out of the other half. From there it depends on person:
Babies: use a baby spoon to scrape, stab, and mix right in the peel until mushy and easy eaten. Or put it in a bowl with some rice cereal.
Chunk Eaters: checkerboard cut to easily scoop out chunks
Independent Kids: give them the half and let them go to town. Micah has figured out he can peel off the shell and eat the half whole.
Don’t be scared to take a few chunks for yourself! It’s really good with eggs and rice. And a little salt over the top makes the flavor oh so delicious.

Neither of my kids wanted to eat avocado until they were a little bit older. 🙁 They gagged and cried! But I know it is such great transition to solids so I was sad when they hated it.
