To Buy and Not to Buy for Baby

The impending arrival of a newborn is an exciting time for all of the family, but there is plenty to think about when it comes to getting everything ready. Perhaps unsurprisingly, there are a lot of things babies need and it’s likely you’ll have a lengthy shopping list to contend with!

So how do you know which items are worth investing in and which can be picked up cheaply or avoided altogether? With this handy guide, you can decide exactly which items should be at the top of your list and which can fall to the bottom…

Products to invest in…

Car Seat

If your baby will be traveling in a vehicle, a car seat is an absolute must-have item. Most hospitals won’t let you leave until you’ve shown them your baby’s car seat so this is something you’ll definitely need to purchase ahead of time!

When it comes to car seats, pre-owned or used seats aren’t an option. Minor bumps can reduce the efficacy of car seats and they even have an expiry date on them to ensure they perform as they’re expected to in the event of an accident. Keep your baby safe and comfortable with a reputable car seat and you’ll never regret it.

Pram or Stroller

Choosing a baby pram or stroller is a mammoth task, but finding the right one is essential. Often, parents have more than one baby pram or stroller as they can be used for different purposes. If you plan on going running or exercising with your baby, for example, a pram with increased suspension might be a good idea. Alternatively, if you live in a city or large town, a lightweight stroller which can be collapsed on public transport may be suitable. However, you plan to use your baby’s pram, bear this mind when you’re choosing which product to go for.

Baby Carrier

Whether you’re at home or out and about, a baby carrier is a great way to keep your baby happy and safe. As well as leaving you free to handle other things, a baby carrier can be a great place for your little one to snooze when you’re out.

Topponcino

A topponcino is great for safely and comfortably holding your baby, especially if you or other family members are feeling anxious about handling a small baby. You can get more info here about other ways you can use a topponcino.

Products you may not need…

Wipe warmers

Baby wipes are fantastic for nappy changes, sticky hands, and messy mouths but they really don’t need to be warmed before use. Room temperature wipes are generally fine for babies and toddlers, so you may find a wipe warmer unnecessary.

Burping cloths

Many big brands now sell burping cloths but do you really need a designer cloth to burp your baby? Inevitably, it’s going to end up covered in milk and barf, so why not save some money and stick to low-cost cloths or repurpose old towels?

Bottle warmer

Sure, bottle warmers can be handy but warm water from the tap or cooled boiled water can be just as effective when it comes to heating your baby’s bottle. If you want to save your cash and splurge on something else, a bottle warmer is something you can knock off your newborn’s shopping list.
